With the exception of Germany (host country) and Russia (due to the war with Ukraine), all teams will participate in the Euro 2024 qualification. The teams are divided into 10 groups of 5 or 6 teams by drawing lots.

Is host country Germany automatically qualified for the European Football Championship?
As host country, Germany has automatically qualified for the European Championship in 2024. Through the qualifying round and play-offs, 23 more countries can qualify for the main tournament.
How can countries qualify?
Germany is automatically qualified. There are 23 tickets to be earned through regular qualifying and the Nations League play-offs.
The UEFA Nations League takes place before the qualifiers. 20 countries will qualify from the qualifiers, while 3 countries will eventually qualify for Euro 2024 from the Nations League play-offs.
The qualifying round is split into two parts:
- group rounds : 20 tickets (March to November 2023)
- play-off matches : 3 tickets (March 2024)
Euro 2024 playoffs
3 countries will qualify for the final tournament via the European Championship 2024 play-offs. These 3 countries are the winners of the play-offs in which 12 countries participate.
The 12 countries depend on their performance in the 2022/23 Nations League, provided they are not already qualified through the regular qualifiers.
There will be 6 semi-finals on March 21, 2024, followed by 3 finals on March 26, 2024. The winners of the 3 finals will qualify through the play-offs for the European Championship 2024 in Germany.
Play-offs for the European Football Championship are not new. Playoff games have been played for 6 of the last 7 European Championships. In 1996, the Netherlands went to the European Championship at the expense of Ireland in the first ever play-off match.
