The Turkish Sports Minister Akif Cagatay Kilic and President Yildirim Demiroren confirmed the interest today. The football associations of Europe have until March 3, 2017 to submit their official bid to UEFA and the Turks will therefore do so one day before the deadline.
Turkey had in has been interested in organizing matches for the European Championship 2020 in the past, but decided against it in 2014. The European Championship 2020 will be played in different countries. The Olympic Games 2020 and the European Championship 2016 were also not awarded to Turkey.
The European Championship 2024 will be the largest sporting event that Turkey has organized. Kilic says he hopes for a wonderful outcome for his country. He said the offer has the approval of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The chance that Turkey will be allowed to host the European Championship 2024 is quite high, as the football association has made considerable progress in recent years in terms of organization and football stadiums.
For the organization of the European Football Championship in 2024, Turkey so far only competition from Germany. In addition, it is expected that Scandinavian countries will make a bid, whether or not jointly. In 2018, UEFA will announce who will be the host country for Euro 2024.
